Little Greene is a British paint company that takes its name from a small 18th-century hamlet located to the east of Manchester. The company’s origins date back to 1773 when The Little Greene Dye Works operated in the area, supplying pigments and dyes to local weaving mills during the Industrial Revolution. The owner of the company, Joshua Rowlands, had a philosophy of formulating colour without compromise, a principle that Little Greene has since adopted.
Today, Little Greene is headquartered in an area with a rich manufacturing pedigree close to Manchester. The company’s team works diligently to hand-pour sample pots and create beautiful new colours and wallpapers for upcoming collections.
The fundamental principles of formulating and making Little Greene’s paints have not changed much since the era of The Little Greene Dye Works.
The company is the only British paint maker still producing a complete range of traditional and modern finishes, using only the finest natural, organic ingredients and safe-synthetic pigments to create superb depth of colour. Little Greene carefully curates and rigorously tests its recipes to deliver consistently high-quality products. The company still manufactures on a small scale, with many of the processes undertaken by experienced craftspeople rather than automated machines.
